PROCESS

Our upcycled denim journey begins with sourcing quality denim from Kenyan markets.

We carefully select the finest pieces, often finding just a few gems per bale. These jeans then become canvases for our unique designs.

We hand-draw patterns and entrust them to Maasai and Turkana women, who add intricate beadwork with their creative flair. After beading, each piece is cleaned, labeled, and ready for our store. When you buy from our collection, you’re not just purchasing denim—you’re embracing a story of craftsmanship, creativity, and connection.

THE STORY AND INSPIRATION

In a landscape increasingly defined by sustainability and circular fashion, our upcycled denim seamlessly intertwines tradition with contemporary elegance.

Denim, a fabric with origins dating back to the late 1600s and gaining prominence in 18th-century America, carries a legacy that transcends generations. It is this rich history that forms the foundation of our artistry.

Our journey commenced in 2017, when we sought to merge the exquisite beadwork of Kenya’s Maasai and Turkana tribes with the timeless versatility of denim.

Each creation, meticulously revitalized and crafted, serves as a testament to a vibrant cultural tapestry, celebrating both diversity and unity.

In 2022, our curator and designer embraced an evolution that reflects this journey, skillfully blending the past with the present to narrate a compelling, sustainable story.

Every stitch and bead in our pieces not only honors a rich heritage but also underscores our unwavering commitment to social, environmental, and economic sustainability.

By choosing our upcycled denim, you are not just acquiring a unique piece of art; you are joining a movement that champions ethical craftsmanship and cultural appreciation.

Where your piece begins, in the hands of women who carry the craft forward.

CARE FOR THE UPCYCLED DENIM

To care for your upcycled denim and ensure its longevity, we recommend hand washing or using the machine on delicate or sensitive fabrics settings with mild detergent

As these denim pieces have been selected to be of 100%  cotton and given new life with intricate beadwork, gentle care is the key to preserving their quality.

Always turn the denim inside out to preserve the beadwork. In the case of stubborn stains, you can carefully apply extra friction, taking care not to damage the beads or fabric.

By treating your upcycled denim with care and respect, you can extend it’s lifespan and even pass it down to future generations as cherished heirloom. With proper care, these pieces will continue to tell their story for years to come.
